Milokssy Resto is as unique as her name. Born and raised in Harlem Heights, she is the product of a Dominican father and a Puerto Rican mother. Growing up, Milokssy and her older sister Carmen were no strangers to the tough economic times of Harlem in the early 1980’s, but her life never seemed lacking. Her parents, Ramon and Daisy Gonzalez, worked hard to provide a suitable life for their two girls. Ramon worked as a super in a very rough neighborhood and on more than one occasion, risked his life by being in the crossfire of rival gangs while disposing of garbage or sweeping the front of the building. But Ramon wanted a better life for his girls. He instilled a deep sense of pride in his work, drive and perseverance, a family creed Milokssy never took lightly.
Making sacrifices and working multiple jobs was not a foreign concept for Milokssy either. At age 16, she held two part time jobs while attending high school full time. One of these positions was as a sales associate at Barnes and Noble. When she graduated high school, she expressed interest in moving into their corporate division. Having no prior experience, many thought she would be overlooked for the position. She applied anyway and was hired.
Always a go getter, Milokssy has never set limitations on herself. In fact, she’s more determined the more the odds are against her. Her tenacity and drive doesn’t stop with her own dreams and aspirations—she will extend it to her close friends and family as well! Case in point, while traveling, Milokssy accompanied her friend to a business meeting. She advocated for her friend’s best interest and was able to negotiate a comfortable settlement for her friend. Unknowingly, Milokssy garnered the attention of Richard Parsons, the CEO of AOLTimeWarner, who was also present at the meeting. He was so impressed by her moxie, that he offered her a job anytime she needed it. A few years later, she took him up on his offer.
Beginning her corporate career under the tutelage of Richard Parsons at AOLTime Warner, it wasn’t long before Milokssy quickly moved up the ranks. Her mentors include, Courteney Monroe (now the CEO of National Geographic), Pamela Levine (Chief Marketing Officer of HBO and president at 20th Century Fox) and others in the entertainment business.
Currently, Milokssy resides with her husband Chris and their two boys, Christian (12) and Phoenix (8) and Italian Mastiff in Rockland County, New York.
Of all the executive titles she’s held, Mom is by far the toughest and most satisfying gig.
